Kaveri Girls Hostel

The history of Kaveri makes an interesting reading which was originally known as Karnatak College Ladies Hostel. She got her present name as Kaveri in the year 1999. Old Ladies Hostel of Karnatak Arts College was near the Dharwad Railway Station and the girls were accommodated in the railway Quarters and was started in the late forties which was called Old Boys Hostel. In 1960, Mrs. Durgabai Deshmukh wife of Mr. C. D. Deshmukh, Finance Minister in the Central Cabinet then, laid the foundation of the proposed ladies hostel. The building got ready in a short span and was ready for occupation. But from 1960  to 64 it was converted into boys hostel and was named as Uday hostel. In 1964, when Ms. Sarojini Shintri took over as the Warden, the girls were shifted from the old boys hostel where they were initially accommodated. Kaveri hostel has two blocks each of them have 144 and 55 rooms respectively. Present student strength in these blocks is 353 and 210 respectively. Block 2  was constructed in 2012-13 under UGC 11th  plan, it provides  modern amenities for girl students.  Prescribed number of students get admission to the hostels according to merit and reservation rules. The hostel is well equipped with washrooms. There is a 24 X 7 security guard to look after the safety of the girl students. The hostel is under the CC camera Surveillance.
