An overview of the Department:
Realising the importance of professional courses in recent years, the Karnatak University decided to start Commerce faculty in Karnatak College.

Dr. R. C. Hiremath the then Vice-Chancellor of the Karnatak University and Dr. C. C. Pattanshetti made joint efforts to start Commerce faculty. Accordingly the Commerce Department of our college came into existence in the year 1977.

Prior to this, University Law College was functioning in the new staff building of our College. When its own new building was constructed, it was shifted to its campus. Hence, the Commerce Department was started functioning in the staff building. Between 1977 and 1981, teachers of the Post-Graduate Department in Commerce used to come as Guest Lecturers to engage the classes.

The staff in the department is well qualified and competent appointment of the staff is made as per the prevailing rules and regulations.

COMMERCE ASSOCIATION
Commerce Association is functioning since the establishment of the Department, initiates all the commerce students to involve actively in the curricular and co-curricular activities organized by the Department. Every academic year the Commerce Association Executive Committee is constituted based on the highest marks scored by the students in the last qualifying examination.

Distinguished Alumni Of The Commerce Department :
Since its inception from 1977 Department of Commerce has produced many distinguished students. Past students of our department have not only excelled in higher education but also holding key important positions in Government Departments, entrepreneurs, business and service organizations and professions like teaching, legal, tax consultation etc.

STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENTS IN VARIOUS FIELDS (CURRICULAR & CO-CURRICULAR)
The students represented the college team in various tournaments at inter-collegiate, inter-zonal and university level and selected as University Blues in various sports events like, Pole weight, Athletes, Hand Ball, Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Kabaddi, Cricket, Badminton and Yogasana, & Karate at International level.
